Modders have in a way breached this gap (Island Adventures for instance) but that doen't come without the cost, which unlike developers, modders can afford (I am not talking about money) I have both DST and DS plus DLC's and as someoment who has played both, they play differently and I wouldn't treat them the same what's so ever DST should stick to it's own exclusive content and DS get it's own (single player base of players is bigger then you think and there is bunch of people who will never touch DST and are not happy about it - especially when you consider promises Klei has made, wish I can find that forum article from 5 years ago to show you. And it divided player base into two different camps, which last until now.
Which is one of the reason why many quit playing and modding DS, DST is mostly composed of new players.

I have DST and I don't see point of playing it solo, it defies a purpose. Why does it need more? you can play DST solo you know, its even easier than than ds. Anyway, DST has bundling wrap and free RoG. Its a bit petty but having sw(even though I'm not a fan of sw) and hamlet only for us feels like we actually have something special that the co-opers don't.
